The accident happened at about 2:15pm at 7600 Dashwood. Police say a three-year-old boy was walking in the parking lot when he was hit by the car.
The little boy's uncle says he was loading his truck in a nearby alley with the child playing just feet away when, he says, a Hummer suddenly pulled up, slamming into the child. The uncle says he rushed to save the boy, wrapping him in his sweatshirt and screaming for help.
Rescue workers and witnesses frantically tried to save the child. He was transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not been released.
The driver of the vehicle initially left the scene, but later returned. Police say she was questioned, did not show any signs of intoxication and was released. The boy's uncle calls the death a sad accident and says he forgives the driver.
No charges are expected to be filed.
