A mother is facing charges, accused of hitting her eight-year-old son in the face with her sandal.

Irma Vasquez, 34, is charged with injury to a child. Police say Vasquez got angry with the boy after he touched something in church and it made a loud noise. That's when they say she took off her sandal and hit him in the face with it.

A teacher noticed bruising on the boy's face, but according to court documents at first the boy told her he had been hit by a soccer ball. The teacher didn't believe the child's story and pressed for details. The boy reportedly eventually admitted that his mother struck him on the face and back and instructed him to lie about it. That's when police were called.
