Fire damages seven apartment units in northwest Houston

HOUSTON

It happened at an apartment complex in the 1700 block of Wirt in northwest Houston.

Cell phone video captured the height of the fire just after 7pm. Jonathan Moya was across the street when he saw the flames.

"I ran up the side and banged on the guy's window and there was somebody in there and he started panicking," Moya said.

Moya says he busted out the man's window and got him out. He still has blood on his hand.

"I guess the adrenalin. Without even thinking, I just broke it with my hand. And I started breaking the glass and I told him to jump," Moya said.

Seven units were damaged in the fire.

Now neighbors watch -- some in tears- - as families carry out what's left of their homes. They have nowhere to sleep tonight, but at least there were no injuries -- a blessing, these neighbors say, just two days before Christmas.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Meanwhile, the Red Cross is helping family.
