HPD: Husband dies in attempted murder-suicide in southwest Houston

HOUSTON

Police were called to the home on Leader and Rookin around 10:20pm.

The suspect, identified as 45-year-old Miguel, suffered an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was found in a back bedroom of the home.

Police say his 51-year-old wife, Catalina Calderon, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was found lying on the floor of the dining room. She was rushed to Ben Taub Hospital and is listed in serious condition.

The couple's two children were inside the home when the shooting happened, according to investigators. It's unclear whether or not they witnessed their father shooting their mother.

The children were taken out of the house by neighbors. They were not injured.
