Bar owner charged in shooting death of country singer

NASHVILLE, TN

Christopher Ferrell told police he fatally shot Mills in self-defense in the pre-dawn hours of Nov. 23 after the two got into an argument over the musician smoking a cigarette in a no-smoking area of Ferrell's Pit and Barrel.

Mills was rushed to the hospital and died that evening.

In a news release, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said Ferrell was indicted by the grand jury Friday morning.

Ferrell's attorney is David Raybin. He said his client is not guilty, but that Ferrell turned himself in Friday afternoon, with bond set at $300,000.

Mills was a native of Arab, Ala. His Wayne Mills Band often performed on the college circuit.
