A former city official received probation.

Former Bear Stearns employee Roberto "Bobby" Ruiz had pleaded guilty to participating in a scheme to bribe El Paso County Judge Anthony Cobos, the county's top official, to steer a $40 million county debt refinancing to him.

For his part, former El Paso City Council member Raymond R. Telles was placed on five years of probation.

Local businessman Lorenzo Hilario Aguilar, who used his connections to influence Cobos, will be sentenced on Dec. 12. Local lobbyist Antonio Dill learns his punishment Jan. 8.
