CPS: Mom arrested after young children found alone, digging through trash for food

HOUSTON

Kimberly Rodriguez, 22, was arrested Friday night on a child endangerment charge.

According to CPS Spokeswoman Estella Olguin, neighbors saw Rodriguez's three children -- ages 3, 2 and 1 -- digging through trash at an apartment complex in the 12300 block of Fleming Drive and eating banana peels.

Olguin says neighbors tried to take the children back to the apartment, but when they discovered no one was home, they called police.

Police arrested Rodriguez at the bar where she works, and an investigation raised concerns about the children's quality of life and the condition of their home, Olguin said.

All three children are now in foster care. There will be a custody hearing for the kids in family court in early December, they'll remain in foster care until then.

Rodriguez is being held on a $35,000 bond.
