2 hikers rescued from Big Bend National Park

ALPINE, TX

Officials with Customs and Border Protection on Tuesday announced the rescue and said the couple's injuries were not life-threatening.

CBP spokesman Bill Brooks says the husband and wife from Buda (BYOO'-duh) were found last Friday afternoon with help from an agency helicopter. Brooks did not have names of the couple, who were spotted as part of the flyover search.

The hikers were at the base of Elephant Tusk Mountain, about 10 miles west of the Panther Junction area.

Officials say the woman was dehydrated and exhausted. Both hikers were flown out for medical attention. They were found about 24 hours after the hike was supposed to end.
