The filing period for 2014 candidates in Texas is open. It runs until December 9, and already office-seekers are lining up to run for office.
At the top of the ticket, democrat Wendy Davis and republican Greg Abbott have filed to run for governor.
In Harris County, the headquarters for both major parties have volunteers on hand to sign up those anxious to file.
KTRK Political Analyst Dr. Richard Murray says Texas has the earliest filing period in the nation, meaning candidates have to make their decisions to run a year before Election Day. And he says with Governor Rick Perry not running for re-election, a game of musical chairs has begun as long time statewide office holders look to "move up."
We'll take you inside the HQ for both parties in Harris County and hear from the party chairmen tonight on Eyewitness News at Six.
