West Texas exec faces sentencing for corruption

EL PASO, TX

Francisco "Frank" Apodaca will be sentenced Wednesday in El Paso by U.S. District Judge Frank Montalvo. Apodaca pleaded guilty to bribing El Paso County commissioners and local school district trustees for their business.

His sentencing was originally scheduled for September, but Apodaca's attorneys requested a postponement while he recovered from a brain injury.

Apodaca is part of a group of 13 officials and local businessmen indicted in a sweeping federal investigation of public corruption in El Paso County. Another is scheduled for sentencing Thursday, with 10 more facing punishment in December. Another had an appeals court vacate his guilty plea.
