Mother accused of leaving child in hot car outside elementary school

HOUSTON

A Katy school district officer says Alisha Yvette Samuel left her four-year-old girl asleep in her car while she went into the Mayde Creek Elementary School on September 10. According to court documents, a parent noticed the child in the car and reported it to school employees, who called police.

An investigator says while employees were waiting for police, the mother came out and left the scene.

The mother was later stopped by a Katy ISD police officer. An investigator viewed video footage from the school and determined the woman was in the school for about 15 minutes, and the temperature in the car could have reached 119 degrees on that day.

Samuel is charged with child endangerment and is out of jail on a $2,000 bond.
