Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Bryan Witt said it's not clear what caused the Dodge pickup carrying two people to hit the rear of the GMC truck that had five occupants. All five of the people in the GMC died in the crash in the early hours Sunday just north of Seagraves, about 60 miles southwest of Lubbock.
Three of the victims were identified as Luis Valenzuela, 26; Isabel Garcia-De La Cerda, 35; and Romulo Molina, 39, all of Sherman. The other two were Juan Carlos Enriquez Mendoza, 31, and David Dominguez-Juarez, both of Mexico. Authorities did not provide an age for Dominguez-Juarez. Molina was the only one wearing a seatbelt.
Witt said alcohol might have been a factor in the crash. Charges are pending.
After the vehicles rolled over, they came to rest in a roadside ditch.
Ramero Aguilar, a passenger in the Dodge, was flown to a hospital. Authorities say Ramon Aguilar, the Dodge driver, left the scene but was later found by troopers and taken to a hospital.
Both of the Aguilars are from Seagraves. Their conditions weren't immediately known.
