Sha Lewis, the Community Gardens Coordinator, discovered that the items were stolen.
According to Lewis, "The items stolen included lawn mowers, tillers, wheelbarrows, shovels, weed eaters."
The items stolen were donated by individuals and corporations, sometimes one or two at a time.
Target Hunger program currently has 14 gardens in Houston. Volunteers provide fresh vegetables and fruits as a part of the food distribution to more than 15,000 people each month.
"It isn't easy to keep enough functional tools to outfit 14 gardens," said Becky Brown, director of development for Target Hunger. "I don't know how we are going to be able to go forward."
