Driver charged with intoxication manslaughter for deadly four-vehicle crash in southwest Houston

HOUSTON

The accident happened around 3am in the 5900 block of the Southwest Freeway at Hillcroft.

According to Houston police, the driver who caused the crash was drunk. Christopher Nicholas Cavazos, 24, was reportedly driving a white Nissan Altima south on the Southwest Freeway service road when he ran the red light at Hillcroft and hit three westbound cars in the intersection.

Officials said a female passenger in one of the vehicles died at the scene. She has not been identified.

Three other people were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Cavazos was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter and accident involving injury/death. Bond was set at $10,000 for each charge.
