Barbara Jordan Endeavors host Diverse-Ability Health Resource Fair in Houston

HOUSTON

Barbara Jordan Endeavors hosted a "Divers-Ability" event Saturday in southwest Houston at which visitors talked to organizations that serve people with physical and mental disabilities.

Organizers said resources like job training and financial planning are especially important for young people who don't usually receive those skills in school.

"Students with disabilities need lifestyle skills," said Troy Myree, chairman of Barbara Jordan Endeavors. "They need to know how to pay their bills, manage a budget. They need to know how the access the resources in the community to help them to help them live independently."

Barbara Jordan Endeavors plans to make the resource fair an annual event. They also plan to hold a 5-K walk and run in October 2014.
