Pearland police have stepped up patrols in the Southern Trails Subdivision, after a number of car break-ins by a burglar who appears to be using a special device.

The thief was caught by surveillance video getting into a car in the Southern Trails subdivision. Residents say the burglar has even hopped a fence to get into a vehicle.

They also say he has to be using some type of special device to turn off their alarms before he makes his move, because the alarms never sound.

"The car was, like, half closed and the alarm was disabled and it didn't go off," said victim Christine Besa.

Since July, there have been at least 18 burglaries in the area, so police are stepping up their presence to catch the crook.

If you recognize him, you're asked to call police.
