Handcuffed escapee found hiding at girlfriend's house

Chad Jerome Strong, 30, faces a charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, as well as pending additional charges after he escaped custody while handcuffed for booking

Authorities have recaptured a man who escaped police custody Thursday night when he was supposed to be booked into jail.

Harris County authorities say Chad Strong, 30, ran from Precinct 7 officials sometime before 8pm Thursday near the 1200 block of Baker Street. He was located on Friday while hiding out at the home of a girlfriend on Hillcroft Street.

Strong had been arrested on a charge of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and was being removed from the patrol vehicle when he somehow managed to get away while being escorted in handcuffs for booking.

Authorities from the Harris County Sheriff's Office, Houston Police Department an a K-9 unit immediately launched an extensive search for Strong after he slipped away.

Other charges are now pending against Strong, described by authorities as a known gang member with ties to the MBR 7th Ward out of New Orleans.
