The 12,500 square-foot museum in downtown will close Sunday night. When it reopens at its new 40,000 square-foot location in northeast Austin in early December it will also have a new name: the Thinkery.
Mike Nellis, executive director of the museum, tells the Austin American-Statesman (http://bit.ly/18a2G0i ) the new location comes with a new mission, new exhibits and new programs.
The museum raised $18 million to build the new structure.
The museum was created in 1983 by a group who wanted to bring more cultural experiences to kids. Back then though it was just a station wagon that carted exhibits to schools, parks, libraries and malls.
