The Nasher Sculpture Center say the "Buried House" piece will be part of a Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity project.
Work crews on Monday tore down the abandoned home in the Oak Cliff neighborhood. The demolition came the same day that center officials announced the artwork planned by Spanish artist Lara Almarcegui (al-mar-suh-GWEE').
She plans to bury the rubble on the property as a "free space" for reflection on the neighborhood.
Habitat for Humanity volunteers will later build a new house on the site.
It's one of 10 commissions for the Nasher's 10th anniversary exhibition called Nasher XChange. The artwork will be available for viewing Oct. 29 through Feb. 16, 2014.
