Toddler hospitalized after dog attack in southwest Houston

HOUSTON

It happened just before 7pm at an apartment complex in the 12500 block of Sandpiper at Fonmeadow in southwest Houston.

According to police, a boy was playing in the complex when a neighbor's dog attacked him. The child, who is around two years old, was unconscious when emergency responders arrived.

Paramedics were able to revive him and he was rushed to Memorial Hermann Hospital Southwest with cuts to his head and face.

Other children who were with the little boy began screaming when they saw the attack. One of the children tried to pull the attacking dog off of the injured boy, and the dog ended up running back to its owner's apartment.

The dog, a black mixed breed, was outside on its owner's patio when our crews arrived. It's unknown what prompted the dog to attack.
