Woman charged in what authorities call 'sophisticated scam' of leased homes

HOUSTON

Ariel Sustaita, 21, is charged with felony theft after she allegedly posted ads on Craigslist for homes for lease that did not belong to her. The constable's office says Sustaita worked for an inspection company and was able to obtain keys to homes across Houston, Pasadena and other locations in Harris County. They say she then changed the locks on some of the houses, and leased them out.

"She operated a very sophisticated scam," said Asst. Chief Mark Herman.

Deputies caught up to Sustaita after setting up a sting.

The district attorney's office expects to file more charges. Authorities say several co-defendants are expected to be arrested as well.
