The Galveston County Daily News reported Tuesday that Galveston officials rejected a plan to save parking sports for lifeguards and other beach patrol workers.
Paid parking began July 27 along much of Seawall Boulevard.
The Galveston Park Board of Trustees attempted to negotiate reserved parking but failed. Beach Patrol Chief Peter Davis, who's raised logistical and safety concerns, spent $2,500 for annual parking passes for employees -- without guaranteed spots.
Park board leaders plan to approach city officials again.
Police Chief Henry Porretto says the department might consider designated spaces if the park board paid for it and rules on beach user fees aren't violated.
