Crews to demolish Macy's downtown Houston store

HOUSTON

The 10-story Main Street retail fixture closed in March, 66 years after it opened as the Foley's department store.

Andy Skabowski is operations manager for the Metropolitan Transit Authority. He says crews will use explosive charges to demolish the 791,000-square-foot building early the morning of Sept. 22.

The Metro's Main Street rail line runs in front of the building, so Metro officials discussed plans for the demolition work last week.

Owners of the building plan new retail development for the site.

In 2000, Federated Department Stores rebranded Foley's as Macy's, another department store chain owned by Federated.
