Montgomery Co. firefighters' softball tournament raises funds for Houston firefighters injured in motel fire

CONROE, TX

The North Montgomery County Fire Department won the "Batting for our Brothers" softball tournament.

Ten fire departments in Montgomery County raised more than $26,000 to help three Houston firefighters injured in a May 31 motel fire that killed four others. The injured firefighters benefiting from the tournament are HFD's Captain William Dowling, Robert Yarbrough and Tom Livesay.

Dowling's son, Forrest, played with the winning team. His teammates gave him the winning trophy.

And Dowling's wife, Jacki, expressed her gratitude for the fundraiser, saying, "It's great that people I don't even know would go out and put a fundraiser on."

Dowling remains hospitalized for his injuries.
