Man gets life term in 1998 killing of Canyon teen

CANYON, TX

A Randall County jury on Thursday convicted Mario Ballesteros Campos of capital murder in the slaying of 17-year-old Fred Charles Moseley of Canyon. Prosecutors did not seek the death penalty so the Amarillo man received an automatic life prison term.

Another man who cooperated with the prosecution awaits trial on a capital murder charge. A criminal complaint says Gerald Ross Dooley told investigators that Moseley, who attended the Amarillo Christian School, was strangled during a July 1998 robbery at the victim's home.

Campos and Dooley were indicted in 2012.
