TxDOT: I-10 at Highway 59 to stay closed until Sunday morning

HOUSTON The wreck happened shortly before 2:45pm on the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 at the Interstate 45 North exit, and authorities now say they don't expect the highway to reopen until Sunday morning.

Officials from the Texas Department of Transportation say an 18-wheeler overturned and caused some type of damage to the pavement.

Authorities are still assessing the scale and severity of the damage, but say so far, it does not appear to be anything structural. It wasn't immediately known when the highway will reopen.

"We're asking everybody to be patient. We don't have an exact time for when the freeway will be open. It could be all evening so we're just asking folks to be patient and to avoid the area," said Danny Perez with TxDOT.

All commuters are being detoured to Highway 59 South.

Perez say their first priority is to move the 18-wheeler involved in the wreck. Once that's done, they will immediately begin on repairs.

No other details were immediately available.
