Police: Teen confesses to stabbing mom in Jacinto City

JACINTO CITY, TX

It happened in the 11200 block of Verano Street. The 911 call placed by Laura Moreno's sister is not dramatic sounding at all.

911 dispatcher: "What's your location and emergency?"
Caller: "Ma'am, I need someone to come. My sister is dead in her bed."
911 dispatcher: "She's not breathing or conscious?
Caller: "No, she's dead."

But what happened inside the home was disturbing. Police say Moreno's 15-year-old son stabbed her to death just after 3am after going into some sort of psychotic state.

"He just snapped," said Jacinto City Police Chief Joe Ayala. "And the next thing he observed was that he had stabbed her and was removing the knife."

The teen then called his aunt and told her what he had allegedly done. Investigators say the reason he gave for stabbing his mother is a very sad one. The teen said Moreno was abusive both verbally and physically, particularly when she'd been drinking.

"He said it was just so much verbal abuse. He was just tired of it," said Ayala. "And it just never would stop."

Police say they've responded to several calls involving Laura Moreno in the past, when they say she was drunk and belligerent. Moreno's friend who owns the home described the teen as a great kid and said he was unaware of the conflicts described by police.

"He was always very respectful," said Arthur Zuniga. "He never bad-mouthed to her. He always did what he was told."

Police say Moreno's son has officially been charged with murder.
