The Navy says 21-year-old Submarine Seaman Rolando Acosta of Plainview, Texas, fell from the USS Boise while standing duty on Saturday. The submarine was moored at a pier at the base.
An investigation of the accident is continuing.
The Navy tells media outlets that Acosta was a sonar technician. He enlisted in the Navy in 2012 and the Boise was his first assignment.
