State Rep. Stefani Carter released a statement Monday saying she will run for a seat on the commission responsible regulating the oil and gas industry in Texas.
Carter was the first African American Republican woman elected to the Texas House. She is a Harvard-trained lawyer and served as an assistant district attorney in Colin County.
She is running to replace Barry Smitherman, who has announced his intention to run for attorney general. No Democrat has announced for the post.
With Gov. Rick Perry stepping down, 2014 will bring tremendous political turnover as many officeholders seek higher office.
