New construction on Hwy 290 prompts closures, lane changes

HOUSTON

This portion of the construction, known as Project G, will rebuild US 290 from approximately W. Little York to FM 529, including the W. Little York bridge over US 290 and continuous Beltway 8 frontage roads at US 290.

Beginning tonight at 10pm, the US 290 westbound mainlanes from Gessner to Beltway 8 will be closed until 5:00am Tuesday. The closure also affects the access ramps to the north- and southbound Sam Houston Tollway. Motorists will be detoured to the frontage road at the Gessner exit and re-enter at the next entrance ramp. Local law enforcement will provide traffic control through the signalized intersection.

Crews also will shift US 290 westbound mainlanes to the north side between west of Gessner to Beltway 8 to make room for reconstruction of the W. Little York bridge over US 290.

Then later this month, the eastbound mainlanes and high occupancy lane will also shift north. Crews will demolish and rebuild the W. Little York bridge in segments in order to maintain traffic on the bridge during reconstruction, which is estimated to take six months to complete.
