Workers are installing signs warning motorists and tourists in the Texas Gulf Coast city that it's going to cost to park on the popular beachfront street.
Police Chief Henry Porretto tells The Galveston County Daily News it's not yet been announced when the fees will begin but he says there will be announcements and some "soft enforcement" before the hard enforcement begins with license plate scanners.
Parking will cost $1 an hour for up to eight hours. Also, annual passes will be available for $25.
Signs also are going up on nearby streets for people trying to avoid the fees.
Voters approved the idea two years ago but there have been numerous delays in getting the project completed.
