Hotel guest shot during robbery at Fairfield Inn on the Katy Freeway in northwest Houston

HOUSTON

It happened around midnight at Fairfield Inn on the Katy Freeway at Grisby near Highway 6.

According to police, a 49-year-old woman staying at the inn went to get some ice. That's when she was confronted by a man with a gun who ordered her to take him back to her room.

Police say the suspect demanded money. When she said she had none, the man started to tie her up. In the process, police said he shot her in the leg.

"That's very awful. We were not aware. We go to sleep early because of our little boy," hotel guest Dan Coates said. "Yeah, it makes me very concerned."

The hotel's manager wouldn't comment about what happened, saying only that there was an incident and that they're cooperating with the police investigation.

Police said the suspect ended up taking the woman's briefcase. He was seen leaving the hotel in a dented Toyota Solara.

The woman was taken to the hospital, but officials said she wasn't seriously injured.

Still, Dan and Olesya Coates, who stayed at the hotel Friday night, now aren't sure they want to stay another night.

"I want to find a safer place now," Olesya Coates said. "I have an infant."

Anyone with information on this crime can call Houston police or Crime Stoppers.
