The first concert was held in the amphitheater that was in Hermann Park on June 21, 1913. Despite wars, depressions and oil busts, the symphony persevered because of public support that continues today.

"I subscribe to the symphony downtown," said Marge Mayer, who we found in line. "This will be the symphony of a lifetime."
