Police find body of missing candidate for mayor

MEXICO CITY, Mexico

Chihuahua state prosecutors spokesman Carlos Gonzalez says police found the body of Jaime Orozco on Wednesday along a road near the town of Guadalupe y Calvo, where he was running for mayor.

Gonzalez says the 40-year-old candidate for the ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party had been shot to death. Authorities haven't determined a motive.

Guadalupe y Calvo is nestled in a mountainous area known as "The Golden Triangle," which is used to grow marijuana and opium poppy.

Political leaders say organized crime has prevented several people from registering as candidates in other towns in the region.
