Crews battle fires in different spots around SE Texas

HOUSTON

A couple of these fires started right around midnight. Authorities say they were all unrelated, but each one was devastating in its own way.

The Channelview Volunteer Fire Department, along with several other departments, responded, doing their best to fight a big fire there, despite an iron gate and burglar bars which made it difficult to get into the home. The homeowners may be on vacation. No one was hurt.

In Seabrook, firefighters also had their hands full with a heavily-fortified home. The three-story home had heavy hurricane protection, storm shutters and other protection, which made accessing it difficult and the fire tough to put out. It was two-alarm fire, but no one was hurt as the homeowners live in Houston. This home was also a total loss.

Earlier in the evening, a two-alarm fire in The Woodlands pushed 70 to 80 residents at The Forum retirement home out of their living quarters. An electrical transformer exploded, causing a fire which was quickly put out, but left much of the surrounding area without power.

The power company worked to restore service throughout the night, and those residents were put in quarters with emergency backup power. No one was injured.
