Officials: Man shoots uncle's dogs over home rental

HOUSTON

Christopher Steele has been charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals and aggravated assault of a family member in connection to the April 30 incident, according to the Harris County District Attorney's Office.

According to investigators, the uncle said his nephew was at his northeast Harris County home in the 1700 block of Moss Forest when he learned that he could not lease the house. Steele angrily left, but apparently returned and shot his uncle's two dogs as they ate inside a fenced area. He then allegedly pointed the rifle at his uncle and threatened to shoot him, too.

The dogs were taken to animal emergency center in The Woodlands, where one of the dogs was diagnosed with a collapsed lung.

Bail for the animal cruelty charge was set at $2,000. No bond will be set on the aggravated assault charge.
