It happened around 3am on Highway 90 at Harlem Road.
The train was on the tracks, blocking the intersection, when the car went through the crossing gate and hit the side of the train. The driver was trapped and had to be removed by the Jaws of Life.
He was taken by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital. Investigators say speed was a factor in the accident.
