Fort Worth police kill armed resident

FORT WORTH, TX

Police spokeswoman Cpl. Tracey Knight says officers "felt threatened" when they encountered Jerry Waller at the back of his house near the garage early Tuesday morning.

Knight told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram (http://bit.ly/130m8vg ) she could not say whether both officers fired their weapons or whether Waller fired his gun.

She says, "This is a terrible tragedy for everyone."

Knight says the two officers are on routine administrative leave. Both have been with the department for less than a year.

Police Chief Jeff Halstead in a statement asked for patience as the shooting is investigated.
