Officials to remind boaters about zebra mussels

DALLAS, TX

At a news conference Friday at Lake Ray Roberts in North Texas, officials will reiterate the state regulation that requires boaters on lakes Texoma, Lavon, Ray Roberts and Lewisville to drain their boats, including live wells and bilges, and to clean and dry them.

The regulation intended to slow the spread of the invasive species also holds for parts of the Red River and the Elm Fork of Trinity River.

Zebra mussels can expand their range by hitching rides on boats and trailers.

It is a Class C misdemeanor statewide to possess or transport them.
