Police say thieves used a pickup truck to smash into a convenience store and grab an ATM in east Houston overnight.

It happened around 4:20am on Lathrop Road along the East Freeway at the Timewise convenience store. All of this happened while the store clerk was inside the store.

Authorities say at least five suspects driving a dark pickup truck, a vehicle which was possibly stolen, backed into the store, crashing into it at least three times to get inside.

Police say the store clerk who was behind the counter frantically ran to a backroom and called 911. The suspects grabbed the ATM and took off.

Investigators say a witness saw the suspects drive along the I-10 East feeder road. Four of the suspects reportedly jumped out of the truck and into a waiting car. The fifth suspect drove off in a dark colored 4-door vehicle.

Police tell us the store clerk was taken to the hospital as a precaution. Anyone with any information is being asked to call HPD.
