It happened at the Thornbury Apartments off Hollister near West Little York.
The man's fiancee says she dozed off poolside and when she woke up, she found him in the whirlpool not breathing. She thinks he might have been in the water for 10 minutes.
The woman says the man had a few beers before getting the water, but he's also had two strokes in the past.
The man was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital-Northwest.
