Houston Mayor Annise Parker releases proposed city budget for 2014

HOUSTON

The $4.9 billion proposed budget has a tax support of $2.2 billion.

The mayor says this proposal does not require any tax increases.

Parker adds that this budget restores big cuts made during the recession and also builds on progress made during the last three years.

"The city is in a good place, financially. There are still concerns and challenges," Parker said. "We have restored the very difficult cuts we had to make as we were in the depths of the recession."

Parker says that, moving forward, she will continue to focus on five main priorities -- jobs and sustainable growth, public safety, infrastructure, quality of life and fiscal responsibility.
