Experts say recent storms have interrupted the northbound migration of some songbirds, resulting in what birders call dramatic fallouts -- or layovers.
The Corpus Christi Caller-Times reported Tuesday that bird lovers in the past several weeks reported seeing painted and indigo buntings, orioles of several types, warblers, grosbeaks and other songbirds.
Author Mel Cooksey, who wrote "A Birder's Guide to the Texas Coast," calls it the most dramatic migration event in the Coastal Bend since the mid-1990s. But Cooksey also says the late April storms killed thousands of birds.
