When employees arrived at the J.C. Penney store in Meyerland Plaza at around 10:40am, they noticed smoke in the building. The workers evacuated the building and called the fire department.
According to the Houston Fire Department, firefighters found a fire in an interior wall in a clothing area. The sprinkler system put out the blaze, and the store suffered some smoke and water damage.
No one was injured. Arson investigators were called out to determine the cause of the fire. Store employees were allowed back inside to assess damage.
