Man faces murder trial after repeat DWIs

SAN ANTONIO, TX

The San Antonio Express-News reports that Christopher Hughes Lamar swerved on Interstate 10 last year and killed 28-year-old Jessica Rodriguez and her daughter, Kaylee Flores. Lamar was driving with a blood-alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit.

Lamar faces a felony murder charge because he has previously been convicted twice of driving while intoxicated. If acquitted, he will still face prison time for intoxication manslaughter.

Lamar's attorney, Louis Martinez, says his client was brain-damaged from a DWI wreck when he was a teenager and relied heavily on alcohol.

Prosecutor David Henderson says both victims died instantly from the crash.
