Two arrested in connection to University of Houston armed robbery

HOUSTON

James Manns, of Pearland, was identified by UHPD as the gunman. Investigators say on April 13 Manns and three accomplices broke into a Cambridge Oaks Student Village apartment located at Cullen and Wheeler looking for drugs. Police say UH student and apartment resident Samy Gharbaoui, 19, allegedly sold drugs to Manns earlier in the day at the apartment.

Manns, 18, was arrested without incident and with assistance from Pearland police Tuesday morning. He is charged with two counts of aggravated robbery.

Gharbaoui was not in the apartment at the time of the attack, but his two roommates were robbed of their wallets, according to police.

Police say Gharbaoui was arrested Tuesday morning for possession of drugs. Investigators say they recovered a safe containing drugs from Gharbaoui's apartment. He is charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of marijuana.

University of Houston Police Chief Ceaser Moore said the two students who were victimized were not involved with the criminal activity. Police are still seeking Manns' accomplices.
