Sugar Land officers shoot, kill man during confrontation

SUGAR LAND, TX

It all happened at a home on the 3300 block of Lakefield Boulevard near Grand Cayman Parkway around 9pm, it left some neighbors unnerved. Sean Isensee's family is expressing sorrow toward the officers who were forced to take his life Sunday night. They say he has a long history of mental illness.

Sean Isensee apparently posted a video to YouTube on St. Patrick's Day. His father says it speaks much more to his life than the way it ended.

"I hope you guys are all doing well, and much love to the world and peace out," Sean said in the video.

The 31-year-old was shot and killed Sunday night by Sugar Land police at his parents' home. They say he pointed a rifle at officers.

Sugar Land Police spokesperson Doug Adolph said, "The man refused to de-escalate the situation and at that time the officer, fearing for his safety, fired his service weapon, striking the suspect twice."

It was not Sean's first encounter with police. In fact, they'd responded just hours earlier, his father says, when he wanted to be taken to a hospital.

Ted Isensee said, "They didn't agree that he needed what he thought he needed."

So Sean was released from the hospital. His father says he'd been diagnosed with bi-polar and general anxiety disorder, and that he'd purchased the gun out of fear following an incident sometime prior in Houston where he was beaten and left with a concussion.

Sean Isensee was very much into guns, even posting videos from the shooting range. Police knew of his mental issues and responded with extra officers after his father called 911. Police say he'd threatened his parents with a hatchet and rocks. One officer heard Sean Isensee chambering a round before he came out with the rifle.

His father Ted said, "Police were obviously -- they know what the situation is. I don't know if he pointed a gun at the cops, but if he did, their life is in danger."

The family also expresses thanks to all the health care professionals who over the last 13 years tried to help Sean. This case is still under investigation by police.

The officer who fired his weapon is Greg Suter. He's 27 years old. He's been with Sugar Land Police for three years. He's been placed on three days leave pending the outcome of this investigation, which is routine police policy.
