The incident happened at around 10:30pm at a home on Wafer near Hawthorne.
The suspects apparently jumped out of a truck and tried to rob the man, but he pulled out his gun and started shooting.
The suspects ran back to their truck, but the man kept firing at their vehicle.
Both suspects were shot.
Neighbor Gloria Masters heard the commotion.
"I couldn't believe it was happening, and after it was over, he just stood there brandishing the gun. When the police came, they made him lay down on the street," Masters told us. "I was scared to death. I mean, this is a quiet neighborhood, and nothing like this ever happens here."
The victim has a concealed handgun license and was not hurt during the robbery.
The suspected thieves were both shot and are in the hospital but expected to recover.
