An activist climbed 30 feet up a flagpole in front of LyondellBasell's downtown Houston office this morning and hung a banner in protest of the company's business with the Keystone XL oil pipeline.

The Houston Fire Department had to use a bucket ladder to extricate the man from the flagpole at McKinney and San Jacinto. Firefighters also removed the banner.

The protester was then taken into custody.

According to the group Tar Sands Blockade, the protest from activist Perry Graham is in response to a recent announcement by LyondellBasell that they were completing a $50 million upgrade to increase the Houston refining facility's capacity to process tar sands.
