Couple, baby ambushed in NW Houston shooting; two dead, one injured in shooting

HOUSTON

The shooting happened shortly after 5pm at the Avery Park Apartments complex off West Gulf Bank near TC Jester. It left two people dead and a third in surgery.

Police say the couple and baby arrived home when at least two men ran up to the car and started shooting. Police say the suspects shot over the woman and the baby, who were in the passenger seat, hitting the child's father. Investigators believe the victim returned fire, striking at least two of the suspects.

In the end, three people were rushed to the hospital -- one victim and two suspects. Police say the 23-year-old male victim was transported to Houston Northwest Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A juvenile male suspect, 15, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A third male suspect, 19, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in critical condition. Identities have not been released.

Police say they are having a hard time finding witnesses.

"People just heard things. Nobody saw anything and even the fiance doesn't seem to know why these people are looking for her boyfriend," Houston Police Department Sgt. Tracey Richardson said.

Homicide investigators are now getting help from HPD's gang division to determine whether the shooting was gang-related.

Police have recovered at least two guns from the scene, but still have no suspects.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
